James Dondero is the founder and principal of NexPoint, a multibillion-dollar alternative investment platform headquartered in Dallas, Texas. A prominent businessman and philanthropist, Mr. Dondero has been the majority owner and chairman of the board of directors at NexBank Capital, Inc. since 2004. Additionally, Mr. Dondero is a board member of NexBank Capital, Inc.’s affiliate, NexBank as well as SeaOne Holdings, LLC., among others.
Mr. Dondero has an extensive background and expertise in investing across the alternative landscape. His in-depth knowledge of alternative investing has positioned him to establish a variety of businesses within the sector that manage investments in real estate, structured credit, and private equity. Through his established enterprises Mr. Dondero strives to increase access to alternative investments and drive innovation across the industry.
Originally born in Hoboken, New Jersey, Mr. Dondero has resided in Dallas, Texas, for nearly three decades. He is avidly involved with various local nonprofit organizations, and his philanthropic efforts play a pivotal role in advancing the community of which he is a member. He is a longtime supporter and board member of the Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business, and sits on the George W. Bush Presidential Center Executive Advisory Council. Many of Mr. Dondero’s charitable contributions have gone toward improving education, science, veteran affairs, and economic development. His dedication to serving the most vulnerable members of his community has also led him to become a supporter of the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, The Family Place, and more.
Mr. Dondero graduated from the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce with the highest honors of Beta Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi and a B.S. in Accounting and Finance. Furthermore, his credentials include being a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA), and he is a designated Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
